Hall of Shame – May 27, 2020

There is so much I could say about the Reopen Howard County rally held in historic Ellicott City yesterday. There’s room for debate on the subject of reopening the county. But it’s clear that the rally was about more than that, and I’ll let the pictures speak for themselves. On a day when many people of color and their allies are reeling from videos of the death of George Floyd at the hands of Minneapolis police officers, and NYC woman Amy Cooper dialing 911 on an African-American man who asked her to leash her dog, that these folks chose to show up with signs and t-shirts like those pictured below speaks volumes.

That Maryland Delegate Warren Miller and Howard County Councilmember David Yungmann chose to participate in this rally and to legitimize it also speaks volumes. Thumbs down and middle fingers up for you, gentlemen.

Guess what, bro? George Floyd’s life mattered. (Photo credit: Reopen Howard County)
The message with racist connotations about our African-American county executive is bad enough, but her cheeky expression raises the vulgarity level tenfold. (Photo credit: Reopen Howard County)
